BARN, Berendrecht
In 2016, Sculpt(IT) Architects renovated a large former barn and turned it into a residence. It appears as though nothing was changed. The façades remain unchanged and were only fitted with elegant steel windows placed behind the original, wooden barn doors.
The large central barn was thoroughly cleared of all dust and renovated where necessary. This staggering space is used as a polyvalent space as well as a residence in summer and the transitional seasons. The actual residence was created in the side barn. It has a limited surface area and is extremely well insulated. The interior architecture of the side barn greatly differs from that of the main barn, which results in an interesting interplay between the two. The side barn is connected to the main barn through 4-metre-high, very fine thermal-break Janisol Arte windows. A truly unique structure.
